Sally Hansen- Bubblegum Pink Review

GOOODDD morning party people!! I present to you the most “KAWAIII” Konad I think I’ve ever attempted. Happy 50th Anniversary to Sanrio!!! To create this mani, I used Sally Hansens Bubblegum Pink as the base. It’s a pretty fun shimmery pink. Covered well in about two coats. I say about, because some fingers needed three. For the stamping color I used WetnWild- Black Creme, a super cheapy 99 cent polish that works amazingly well for Konads. You can purchase both the Sally Hansen polish as well as the WetnWild one at your local drugstore. For the Hello Kitty stamp image I used a fauxnad image plate I got off of Ebay. I repeat, NOT a Konad image plate. Fauxnad= fake Konad image plate. For the stamp image on the other nails, I used Konad image plate M65. Just a short little tangent here, if you’re a nail pro, you can skip this entire part. =]

Konad is an image stamping nail art system. That’s super easy to use, and fun. It’s obviously going to take some practice but once you get the hang of it, it’s the easiest way to jazz up a plain manicure. I’ve used Konads in several of my reviews that you can check out if you’re interested. First and foremost you NEED an image plate, and a stamper. These are necessary to do a Konad. You can purchase Konad stamps from here Konad Nail Art Double Ended Stamper And Scraper Or through OCnailart.com. I’ve purchased with Kathleen before and she’s super awesome and the customer service is amazing. Now that you’ve got the essentials, the most important part is the image plate itself. You can see from Kathleens website that there are SEVERAL image plates to choose from. I spent literally half my day looking through all of them before I decided which plates I wanted needed. Time well spent? Absolutely. HAHA If you’re just starting out with Konads, I suggest you get at least one individual stamp image plate and a full nail stamp image plate. The difference between the two? One has itty bitty stamps that are single images of various things. The full nail image plates are a little wider and usually have patterns on them that are used for the obvious purpose of covering the whole nail. Now the actual stamping part!!

First, you want to make sure that you have all the ingredients for the perfect Konad session. Make sure to have your stamper, your scraper (I personally like using a razor blade, an old credit card, or the plastic scraper you can purchase from Konad all do the same thing), nail polish remover, tweezers, your image plate, cotton balls, and the polish you’re going to be stamping with.

Second, make sure the image plate is clean and the stamp part of your stamper is free of lint and residue from leftover stamping.

Third, you take the nail polish you want to stamp and cover the image of your choice.

Use your scraper and gently scrape off the polish,

use the stamper and stamp to transfer the polish to the stamper.

Fourth, take the stamper and roll the image over your nail. VOILA. Simple as pie. Although if you’re using a non Konad special polish, the dry time on the polishes is pretty rapid, so speed is truly a virtue. With more practice you can get Konading down to a tee. It’s not difficult. Honest. It just takes a few trials and errors.

Polishes to use for Konading… ah yes.. the million dollar question. Do you really need to purchase those special Konad polishes? My answer is no. You don’t NEED to, they’re nice to have, because the consistency of them is much thicker and the dry time of the polish on the image plate is slower than non Konad special polishes. But do you need them? No. I bet you have tons of polishes in your stash that will work perfectly fine for Konading. Obviously sheer polishes, or light colored polishes are not going to be your best bet, but usually darker colors that are pretty pigmented and dense will work amazing. Again, this requires a little bit of trial and error. =D

Well, I hope this post was somewhat informative for those who had no idea what Konads were, and for my Konad experienced readers, sorry I don’t have anything more cool for ya today. I will tell you a joke though. *AHEM AHEM*  One proton turns to another proton and says, “I think I lost an electron!” The other proton says, “Are you sure?”, the proton replies, “I’m positive!!” AHHHHH HAHAHAHAHA okay. *steps off stage*

If you would like to purchase the Konad image plate that I used specifically for this post, you can purchase Konad image plate M65 here: Konad Stamping Nail Art Image Plate – M65

  1. Great tutorial!! I have a sneaking suspicion that the hubs has picked up on my not-so-subtle hinting about needing a Konad and I'll be practicing within a week. :)

I got you packaged woot woot!!!

thanks so much. you're strawberry note was too cute that I haven't opened it yet.

here's a tip i have: when I use my full nail plates I try to save nail polish so I don't cover the entire image with polish. instead I cover the first 1/4 of it then when I scrape it spreads the polish over the entire full image.

YAYYY!!! =D I'm so glad you got your package. You're gonna love it. SERIOUSLY love it. I'm going to try your tip next time. I'm always afraid if I do that I'll spread the polish too thin and it'll dry too fast. =[
